Text Box: assist those who are disadvantaged. There’s nothing more gratifying than to be a part of First State.

Text Box: It was with great joy that we hosted our Annual Dinner this past November. Just think -Forty two years! By no stretch of the imagination, forty-two years is staying power! That kind of longevity is attributed to great people with a clear mission. We have experienced many changes but what remains constant is the conviction and passion of our employees.

Change was the theme of our dinner this year - “The Changing Face of Poverty”. The landscape has changed. Poverty no longer hides in the back alleys and the soup kitchens. Poverty is infiltrating working families, middle class bread winners who suddenly find themselves without Text Box: a job or healthcare insurance, and young parents who get caught in the housing crunch. Poverty has expanded its reach and tightened its grasp to include more and more American citizens. First State was ready and responded by reaching out to those who may not have traditional sought our services. We established new partnerships with other organizations that shared our mission and vision. We implemented new methods and discarded those that were no longer effective. We must continue to evolve to make a difference in the lives of people in our State. One person at a time, one day at a time, one year at a time is our approach to Text Box: First State Celebrates 42 Years of Community Service
Text Box: First State Bids Farewell to Board Vice President
Text Box: Although we all know change is part of life, it can still be hard to take. Our First State Board Vice President, Jack Abel, will be leaving the area and moving on to other things. Jack has been such a blessing to us for the past two years and we surely hate to see him go but we wish him well and thank him for his service. Thank you, Jack!
Also leaving our Board are Dr. John Austin and Mr. Nelson Dodd. We thank you both for your service.
Mr. Harold Stafford, who has served faithfully as our Secretary-Treasure, has been voted in to the office of Vice President to replace Mr. Abel and Ms. Evelyn Wilson, a Text Box: community representative, will take over as Secretary-Treasurer. We would also like to welcome the following new Board Members:
Mrs. Beryl Barmore from Wilmington Trust.
Mr. Albert Biddle from Kent County Levy Court.
Mr. Timothy Crawl-Bey from the City of Wilmington.
Mr. Roosevelt Nichols (Consumer) from New Castle.
