Because no family in our community should ever go hungry....
Georgetown- On June 25, 2015, First State Community Action Agency distributed boxes of food to benefit Sussex County households. As part of the Sussex SUCCESS initiative, First State was able to disperse emergency food boxes containing non-perishable food items, a roast of chicken, and fresh produce to 100 individuals and families in need.
The effort was made possible through funding from the Walmart Foundation and in partnership with First State Community Action Agency, Sussex County Health Promotion Coalition, and United Way of Delaware. Peggy Geisler, Executive Director of the Sussex County Health Promotion Coalition said the purpose of this effort was to increase food access to low income families, include educational information and help alleviate cost. "We are proud to be helping with food access issues in Sussex County and recognize that many families need a little assistance and we want to help our partners serve their families," Geisler said.
Sussex SUCCESS stands for Supporting Communities through Collaboration Education and Support Services and is a collaboration of health and social service programs spearheaded by Sussex County Health Promotion Coalition and United Way of Delaware. This collaboration seeks to meet Sussex County residents’ needs by overcoming the county’s distinctive challenges.
