It's more than a pay check: Summer Youth workers gain professional skills and training

On Wednesday, July 15th First State Community Action Agency held a professional development in-service for the youth workers in the Summer Youth Employment Program. About 45 youth participated in sessions on college prep, career planning, money management and financial literacy, leadership developmental and asset building, mock interviews, entrepreneurship, and conflict resolution. Representatives from Delaware State University, Delaware Technical & Community College, Wilmington University, Wesley College, M&T Bank, IAM 40, The National Guard, Sussex Health Promotion Coalition, and First State program came to facilitate the sessions.

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) offers summer employment opportunities, job training and professional development to teens ages 14-18. The 2015 SYEP Program is administered by First State Community Action Agency in Sussex County.
