First State here to H.E.L.P. Delaware families

First State Community Action Agency was well represented during a family dinner event on August 17. The dinner, held monthly for all members of the community, took place at the Church of God & Saints of Christ on Concord Road in Seaford, DE. Following the meal, staff from First State's H.E.L.P. department (Healthy homes, Energy-efficient, Lead-safe, People-centric program) gave a wonderful presentation about the home energy and repair services H.E.L.P. offers. H.E.L.P. houses three major programs that assist with housing and energy issues. The first presenter was Sharon McPhatter who spoke about the DE-Lead Delaware Program which offers free services for lead removal and prevention to those who meet the criteria. The second presenter was Bether Moya who talked about the benefits of the Summer Cooling Assistance Program (SCAP) and Heating Repair Programs (HRRP). During the summer months, SCAP provides air conditioning units to qualifying low-income families in Sussex and Kent, and during the winter months, heating repair or replacement services are offered to qualifying low-income households statewide. Following the meeting, the H.E.L.P. staff answered questions and gave information about the many poverty-relief programs available through First State Community Action Agency.
