To raise awareness of the consequences of lead poisoning among parents and pregnant women who live in homes built before 1978, First State Community Action Agency is participating in National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) October 25-31 through the following events and activities:
Lead Awareness Essay Contest & Dinner
The essay is open to all children ages 6-10 years old. Students must write no more than 10 sentences on the dangers and prevention of Lead Poisoning. Essay must be received by 5pm on October 19, 2015. The 20 Finalists and their families will also be invited to a Dinner on Friday, October 30th at 5pm. The winner will be announced during the dinner ceremony. Prizes include: $50 Cash Prize for the winning essay & Prizes for ALL the Participants!

De-Lead Open House
On Wednesday, October 28th, from 11am - 2pm, First State's De-Lead Program will host an Open House at the Georgetown location (308 N. Railroad Ave). Representatives will be available to talk about the De-Lead Delaware Program and our efforts to reduce / remove harmful lead-based paint hazards from single family homes and rental units in Kent and Sussex counties. Learn about the harmful effects of lead poisoning and how it can be prevented. Get your children tested for lead free of charge. Hear from families who've benefited from these services as well as other community representatives on health-related services and resources available to local families. All are welcome to attend.
