Legislative Breakfast - Sussex County

First State representatives met with Sussex County legislators, elected officials, and partners to discuss the agency's poverty relief efforts in Sussex County. Executive Director Bernice Edwards and her team gave a compelling presentation on the wide range of comprehensive programs and services First State provides to lift people out from poverty and to help residents become self-sufficient. Legislators and community leaders also engaged in meaningful discussion on collaborative opportunities, constituent needs and resources, innovative efforts, and other effective ways to assist Sussex County residents, especially those of low-income. Topics ranged from job creation and training initiatives, to housing and homelessness, livable wages, and transportation needs of local residents. Senior Senator Tom Carper gave remarks reminding us that we have a moral responsibility to help "the least of these," {i.e. the poor, the sick, the incarcerated, the hungry, etc} in a fiscally responsible way. Similar breakfast events will take place in Kent and New Castle Counties.
