Local Officials Show Support of Senior Corps

Local officials across the state of Delaware show their support of National Service and the programs that engage residents in service. Mayors and county officials lead First State's Senior Companion program volunteers in the Senior Corps pledge

MILESTONE: A record number of local officials are uniting behind AmeriCorps and Senior Corps on Tuesday for #Mayor4Service Day! Excited to join them in celebrating the growing impact and reach of national service #Mayor4Service #County4Service

The Senior Companion Program is a service where volunteers age 55 years and older provide friendship and assistance to senior and other individuals who have difficulty with daily living tasks. The service (peer support) these companions give provides temporary relief for families and caregivers as well as allows elderly and disabled recipients to live independently in their homes.

The Senior Companion program is administered in all three Delaware counties by First State Community Action Agency through funding provided by Corporation for National and Community Service and the State of Delaware.
