On Aug 4th, First State in partnership with the Summer Children’s Theatre Camp held a drama presentation (play) for the community in Georgetown.
Nineteen (19) youth between the of ages 5 – 14 years old, participated in a week-long theatre camp from July 31st - August 4th. Drama instructor Karen Murdock worked with the novice actors, and with her guidance they learned basic acting techniques, auditioned, rehearsed and performed two short plays--The Magic Paintbrush” and “The Snow Queen.” To close, the youth exhibited their acting skills before a community audience of nearly 50 guests at First State. The event also featured a display of artwork the youth created during the summer.
The diverse group of talented youth hailed from local communities of Milton, Lewes, and Georgetown, Delaware. Most of them had no previous acting experience or exposure, and were participants in one of First State’s afterschool and summer enrichment programs at La Casita, Georgetown Community, and Cools Spring. This is the 6th consecutive year that First State has partnered with the Rehoboth Summer Children’s Theater to provide drama and arts education to local youth.
