Kick Butts Day 2018
“A Kick Start to Tobacco-Free Living”
Georgetown- On Saturday, March 17, First State Community Action Agency hosted the annual Kick Butts Day event, a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco and tobaccos use. Fifty-five (55) youth from towns throughout Sussex County participated in tobacco education activities and prevention workshops. At the conclusion of the event, children were separated into small groups where they created their own anti-tobacco messages and presented them to their parents and peers. First State's Community-based Program Coordinator, Kendra Harrold, described the day as "empowering" for the youth. "The youth that participated in today’s events made a pledge to themselves and to those they care about by committing to a tobacco free life and educating others of the health risks that come from the use of tobacco products.” The 2018 Kick Butts Day event was a collaborative effort by First State Community Action Agency in partnership with Georgetown Boys & Girls Club. Kent Sussex Community Services, and the American Lung Association in Delaware. This event was made possible through the DE Division of Public Health’s Tobacco Prevention Community Contract. Funding for the Contract is provided by the Delaware Health Fund and managed by the American Lung Association in Delaware.
