Last Thursday, May 7th, First State Community Action Agency joined legislators, community leaders, board members, staff, and partners at Legislative Hall in Dover for the agency’s annual legislative luncheon in recognition of Community Action Month.
The event provided an opportunity to engage directly with members of the Delaware House and Senate about the challenges many families across our state continue to face, while also highlighting the impact Community Action programs have in helping individuals and communities build stability, opportunity, and stronger futures.
Throughout the day, conversations centered on the realities being experienced in communities across Delaware, including housing instability, food insecurity, rising costs, barriers to economic mobility, and the growing need for accessible support services. Agency representatives shared how programs focused on housing, youth development, workforce initiatives, senior services, energy assistance, financial empowerment, and community development continue to serve thousands of Delawareans each year.
While the luncheon celebrated Community Action Month, it also served as an important reminder that effective solutions are built through collaboration. Meaningful progress requires organizations, community members, and policymakers to come together, listen to one another, and remain committed to addressing both immediate needs and the systemic challenges affecting families throughout the state.
One of the most meaningful moments of the day came as proclamations honoring Community Action Month were presented in both the Delaware House of Representatives and the Delaware Senate. The proclamations recognized the longstanding work of Community Action Agencies and the role they continue to play in strengthening communities and expanding opportunity for individuals and families across Delaware.
For First State Community Action Agency, the day represented more than a visit to Legislative Hall. It reflected the importance of ensuring that the experiences, concerns, and voices of Delaware communities remain part of conversations that shape policy and investment decisions statewide.
As Community Action Month continues, First State Community Action Agency remains committed to working alongside community partners, elected officials, and the residents we serve to advance solutions that support stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities throughout Delaware.
