This week, our Executive Director, Bernice Edwards, joined program leaders and staff in doing something essential to our work: showing up.

We were proud to attend a convening hosted by the Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission at Delaware State University, alongside members of our board and the communities we serve. The event brought together voices from across the state to engage in meaningful dialogue around housing—an issue that continues to shape the well-being of individuals and families in every corner of Delaware.

During Fair Housing Month, these conversations carry even greater weight.

They are an opportunity not only to reflect on progress, but to listen more closely, to better understand the challenges people are facing, and to strengthen the partnerships needed to move forward. Housing is deeply connected to stability, health, and opportunity. When individuals and families have access to safe, affordable housing, it creates a foundation for everything else.

The challenges we face are not isolated. They are felt across communities, impacting people from all walks of life. And because of that, the solutions cannot exist in silos.

Real progress happens when people come together. It happens when we create space for different perspectives, when we listen with intention, and when we commit to working collaboratively toward meaningful change.

That is why showing up matters.

At First State Community Action Agency, we remain committed to being part of these conversations—not just during Fair Housing Month, but every day. We will continue to listen, to learn, and to advocate alongside our partners and the communities we serve.

Because ensuring that every voice has a seat at the table is not just important—it is necessary to building stronger, more equitable communities across Delaware.
